Lake
Relief Maps
by Polly Shaefer
Artist
and diver Polly Shaefer of Elkhart, Indiana, brings the fascinating
art of lake bottom contour relief maps to By the Bay and its clients.
This unique art form produces 3-Dimensional maps of lake bottoms.
Using depth increments anywhere from 10 feet to 10 fathoms (depending
on lake size and depth) these marvelous maps give a true representation
of underwater land contours.
Using
actual depth charts, these maps can be made for any public or private
lake, as long as a depth chart exists. Each map is enclosed under
glass in a honey-brown stained oak frame. Framed pieces can range
from 12" x 18" to 24" x 48", depending on lake
size or the scale of the chart. All lake bottoms are painted navy
blue and the land maps surrounding the lake are a parchment color.
By the Bay keeps an inventory of 24 different lakes at all times.
The artist will also custom make relief maps for any lake upon request.
Custom maps normally take 3-4 weeks to complete.
