Used
on board ships for hundreds of years, Ship's Bells were used to
signal official business such as changes of watch, and more social
business such as the beginning or end of a meal. On a ship's watch
schedule, eight half hours, called "glasses" made up one
watch. The helmsman's duty was to turn the glass every half hour
and sound the ship's bell a consecutive number of times; at the
sound of eight bells, the crew changed. The standard was for three
crews to work the ship, working four hours at a time. Call your
"crews" in from the high seas with our selection of brass
Ship's Bells!
